Modern diesel cars were in the spotlight. According to Emissions
Analytics (EA), 97% of them emit more toxic nitrogen oxide pollution on
the road than the official limit.
It turned out that emission levels during normal driving conditions
were significantly higher than when testing in the lab. Although since
the current legislation relates to laboratory testing, only Volkswagen
had actually broken the law - the other manufacturers having met the
laboratory test standard. In another twist, the new data revealed that
the small number of models not exceeding the levels were Volkswagens.
It was also revealed this month that Mitsubishi has rigged emissions testing since 1991.
